Ask the RD: Healthy Holiday Food Choices

I know that it probably seems nearly impossible to eat healthy around the holidays but this post is here to help you! These are some good food choices that are not too indulgent but still delicious! Veggies and dip (or hummus)   This food option is low calorie and it will fill you up! Tea such as this delicious Candy Cane Lane tea Drink a cup of this for holiday flavor with no calories Love eggnog ? Try this creamer in your coffee instead! You will still get the eggnog flavor without a ton of calories and fat. Pumpkin pie While this is not super healthy for you, it is relatively low in calories compared to other desserts. Plus, you are getting many nutrients in the pumpkin. Cranberry sauce - I love this tart sauce.  It is low in calories and full of vitamins.  Also, it will help prevent a UTI! Deviled eggs - while I'm sure that some people would fight me that this is bad for you because of the mayonnaise and the cholesterol

Sausage, Potato, and Kale Stew Ingredients: 1 large link of turkey sausage 5-6 chopped up small yellow potatoes 1 chopped red onion 1/2 bunch chopped fresh kale 5 fresh garlic cloves 1 large can low-sodium crushed tomatoes Steps: Chop up all ingredients and stir fry in a pan for about 20 minutes.  Add can of crushed tomatoes.  Simmer for 10-15 minutes more until potatoes are well cooked.  Add spices to taste (I added Franks Red Hot). Enjoy! This stew was simple and delicious to make.  I found a recipe in Cooking Light magazine that was similar and made it my own!

Soy Candles by Phebes Giveaway

I just got these candles in the mail from Soy Candles by Phebes today but wanted to write a review right away because I was so in love with these candles.  I was sent the clementine candle and the cranberry cobbler. They are the BEST smelling candles! The clementine is fresh and citrusy.  It smells great.   In fact, when I opened my mailbox this afternoon, I actually could smell these candles even though I had not opened the package yet! The cranberry cobbler is my favorite candle EVER.  It smells so amazing.   The company actually chose this scent for me to review and I am so glad that they did. It has a fresh scent like cranberries but also has a holiday smell too. Here is how the company describes this scent " cranberry relish with fresh cinnamon, orange zests and some vanilla blend". Yum!  I just want to sniff these candles all day long!!  The candles come in an 8.5 ounce size and it retails for $12.99.  There are tons of great scents to choose from! I would

Spoonful of Comfort Review

Spoonful of Comfort Review

Spoonful of Comfort Reviews Spoonful of Comfort is a company that makes chicken soup that you can send to people who need a little extra comfort.  I had the pleasure of getting to write a Spoonful of Comfort review and to try this unique company and their chicken soup, rolls, and oatmeal raisin cookies. I wanted to share my Spoonful of Comfort review so you know how great it is. My first impression is that the box was wrapped super cute! I love the paisley paper and the yellow polka dot ribbons on everything.  The people behind this company clearly care about putting a special touch on their products and that shows! Second, I think that this is an amazing idea to be able to send homemade soup to your family members who are sick or may just need a little extra comfort. On the night that I received this package, my husband and I NEEDED some warm comforting food.  Our pipes in our house froze and we did not know what to do.  We live in a double wide trailer and my husband had to

FruitFast Tart Cherries Review

FruitFast Tart Cherries Review

I love dried cherries and this is no exception when talking about the FruitFast brand.  I was sent some FruitFast bars, dried cherries, tart cherry juice, and cherry flex for review on my blog. The fruit fast bars are AMAZING.  They are only around 100 calories and taste like real ground up tart dried cherries.  My favorite was the cherry flex one.  It tastes like homemade fruit rollups. Also, the dried cherries are big and juicy. The juice concentrate is a best seller.  These products are amazing quality and I am really impressed with them. My absolute favorite part of this brand is that they are made with Michigan cherries! I am from Michigan so I love that this is a local product. Thanks FruitFast for sharing your products with me!

Sarah Aghili Review

Sarah Aghili is a brand that sells all sorts of accessories and clothing.  I had the pleasure of working with this company and reviewing some of their bracelets and a ring. My favorite item that I got to review is this yellow bulk ring.  It is HUGE! It looks really neat and earthy on.  My husband who is a science teacher even thinks it's awesome. I also got the saints bracelet for my husband because he loves these types of bracelets.  It retails for only $4.50!! Finally, I got the kabbalah red bracelet.  Let me start off by saying that I do NOT AT ALL believe in kabbalah but like this bracelet because it has eyes on it and my dad is an eye doctor. This company is very affordable and has cute jewelry! Check them out here .

Principessa Beauty Giveaway

Principessa is a brand of beauty products that is loved by many people including celebrities.  I was excited to get to try some of these products because I have read such good things about them. The company aims at having high end products that focus on packaging, perfume, and performance.  I love the packaging on these products and they all smell so good. I got to try a variety of samples from the company and had  two favorites : - Belloccia perfume - I love the smell of this perfume. It is hard for me to describe exactly what it smells like so I will use the company's description: "Its both extremely luxurious and intoxicatingly delicious, opening with ethereal nuances of peach and vanilla flower, cascades into middle notes of night blooming jasmine and ylang ylang and bottom notes of sandalwood and warm amber dry down to a warm, sensual finish." - Cattiva diva - This lotion feels great on your skin and also has the same scent as the perfume. All of the produc

Amrita Singh Review

Amrita Singh Review

Amrita Singh is a company that makes extremely beautiful Indian jewelry.  I did a review for this company and loved them so much that I asked to work with them again. I would highly recommend this company because the people are very nice to work with and the jewelry is great quality.  The necklace that I reviewed a couple months ago is still in perfect condition and I wear it at least once a week. I chose to review the Magda necklace.  It is beautiful and retails for $150.  It is a multi strand necklace with a cross pendant.  I think that this necklace could be worn to work, church, a party, a date, etc.  It is heavy which I actually like in about a necklace. ***Right now, the company is offering free shipping and 30% off orders.  Check out more information on their website. Thanks Amrita Singh for agreeing to work with me again!
