Major Vegetable Cravings

*******Tomorrow 8/1 is the last day to enter my Jackie Warner Workout DVD Giveaway ! So today I was wanting tons of veggies. For part of my lunch, I made parsnip fries & roasted cauliflower and broccoli. This is the before pic but I forgot to take an after pic..whoops For part of my dinner, I made a stir fry with sauteed mushrooms, green onion, spinach, green beans, 1/2 can of butter beans (my protein), a big summer tomato, and some Italian dressing. It was SO good. Oh yeah and I ate about a million other things today including hashbrowns topped with cheddar cheese and turkey bacon, pineapple, a peach, frozen green grapes, 1 1/2 English muffins with apricot jam and I Can't Believe It's Not Butter, Utz kettle chips, peach oolong tea, a gluten-free granola bar, the other 1/2 can of butter beans, and probably more. Yeah I snack A LOT! What did you eat today?

Theo Chocolate Review

When I found out that Theo chocolate sold spicy chile chocolate, I knew that I wanted to ask them if I could review their chocolate.  They agreed and sent me three bars.  I got a milk chocolate bar, spicy chile, and cherry and almond. Like I said, I was very excited to try the spicy chile so I dug into that one first.  It was very good.  Not odd at all.  It tasted like regular dark chocolate with a little spice.  I think my dad will like it a lot because he is a chocolate lover.  Also, the cherry and almond is good too.  My only complaint is that the pieces of cherry and almond are very small in the bar. These bars are high quality chocolate and would make a good present for a chocolate lover.  Thanks Theo chocolate!

Vermont Village Applesauce Review

YUM is the first word that comes to mind when talking about this Vermont Village Applesauce that I was sent for review! I was sent a WHOLE bunch of flavors to try.  My favorites were the mango applesauce and the peach.  The mango was the smoothest applesauce that I have ever tried in my life.  It was the consistency of a super smooth thick smoothie.  The flavor is very fresh and not fake tasting.  All of the applesauce is organic.  The small containers only have 70 calories which is good.  The peach was also to die for! Thanks Vermont Village for sharing your amazing applesauce with me!

Giveaway #12: $40 Right on the Walls Decal Gift Certificate

Right on the Walls sent me one their beautiful wall decals for review. I was not sure exactly where to put it because I wanted it in a place where we could see it all the time. I finally found the perfect spot next to my kitchen. I chose the ornamental clock in metallic gold and am in love with it! It was a two person job to put it up though because with the numbers not being attached to the rest of the decal, you had to be very careful when pulling off the backing. My husband and I think that it is so cool and different to have a flat clock on the wall. I also love the swirly pattern and we have shower curtain that has a similar swirl. The company was generous to give all my readers a 15% off discount on their purchase when they use the code: BR15DCT. Another wall decal that I LOVE! GIVEAWAY!! The people at Right on the Walls offered to give away a $40 gift certificate to the winner of the contest!  The contest is open until midnight Tueday August 10th. The winner will be chose

Dirty Sue Olive Juice Review

Dirty Sue Olive Juice Review

Dirty Sue sent me some of their olive juice for review.  It is used for dirty martinis.  I actually have never had a martini before but I love olives so I knew that I would like this.  Here is what the company has to say: Dirty Sue was created by bartenders for bartenders and home enthusiasts. The finest first quality olives from the Sevilla region of Spain are the heart of this proprietary olive juice product. Dirty Sue is twice filtered brine (olive juice) made from premium olives and comes in an attractive bottle made to be stocked alongside other bar staples such as Rose's Lime Juice and grenadine, or in the fridge at home. Dirty Sue olive juice mix is the perfect complement to your favorite gin or vodka when you are ready to enjoy a classic dirty martini. I think that this product was great! It was nice and salty and sour! I would even use it in a recipe.  Maybe in some pasta salad or something? My husband would not come near this because he does not like olives.  More fo

Giveaway #11: Cultured Care Probiotic Gum

Cultured Care sent me a pack of their probiotic gum.  As most of you know, the big trend now is probiotics so I was excited to be able to review this product.  This product controls and destroys bacteria that cause: •Bad Breath •Sore Throats •Ear Infections •Sinus Problems •Upper Respiratory Infections According to this site, this is what probiotics are for: The word pro-biotic literally means “for life.” Probiotics are friendly, health-promoting bacteria that live virtually everywhere. They live in our soil, air, water and food. They even live in and on us, “colonizing” in various parts of the body including the mouth and intestinal tract. Restoring and keeping a healthy balance of friendly probiotic bacteria supports our natural immunity and resistance to disease-causing (pathogenic) bacteria. Probiotic supplements like lactobacillus acidophilus and bifidus have been growing in popularity for promoting gut and digestive health. My opinion: The gum tasted great and was my

Plum Organics Review

I was excited to receive these samples from Plum Organics for review! They sell a bunch of treats for babies and toddlers.  Yes I am 20 years old but I still like to eat these kind of treats sometimes! I tried a bunch of their mashed fruit from their "just" line.  My favorite was the just mangos! They are only 40 calories which made a nice little afternoon snack.  They are organic and 100% fruit puree. There are no added colors, sugar, or juice.  I was also sent the fruity fingerfuls for toddlers which is cereal with added pieces of fruit.  I got the kind with the freeze dried strawberries.  It was very tasty.  I really like this whole line of products and would recommend them to people of any age (even adults like me). Thanks Plum Organics.

Celsius Calorie Burning Drink Review

My dad first introduced me to this drink when he got it on a deal at Walgreens.  Then I contacted Celsius for some products to review and was excited to also get a lunchbox! First, I tried the orange drink.  That was my favorite of the drinks.  It was carbonated, slightly sweet and best of all only 10 calories.  I then tried the ginger ale flavor which was pretty good and tasted like fresh ginger.  I was not a fan of the peach mango for some reason but that was one of the flavors that my dad tried and he said that he liked it.  According to the company, this product helps to burn calories. It says that you can burn up to 100 calories per can that you drink.  I could not tell any immediate effect but that's not to say that it does not work.  Also, something else to note is that the product has 200 mg of caffeine per can which is like two cups of coffee.  Possibly the caffeine is what is making you burn the calories? Also, this product is supposed to help you when drank 15 minut

Izola Shower Curtain Review

I was very excited when Izola Shower agreed to send me a shower curtain for review because in one of our bathrooms, all we had was a shower liner and no curtain.  I chose the Chandelier shower curtain by Alexa Pulitzer.  When I got the curtain in the mail, I had my husband help me put it up right away.  It was very easy to put up and we love it.  It is great quality and I think it will last us a long time. I really like pattern of it because it is such a bold look.  My husband thinks that it looks elegant. The curtains are affordable starting at $24+.  The one that I chose costs $50.  The company also makes other products such as bedding, place mats, shower liners and rings, etc.  Thank you very much Izola shower for the awesome trendy curtain!

Sunpower Natural Review

Sunpower Natural Review

Sunpower Natural sent me some of their raw cookies and kale chips.  I was so excited to try the kale chips because tons of bloggers make them and when I tried to make them homemade, I failed.  I opened these "chips" right when I got them.  They are crispy and have a slightly sweet flavor.  I like them a lot.  They only have 76 calories per serving. Look at these nutritional stats for the kale munchies " A one ounce serving of these delicious Kale Munchies provides 199% of the daily requirements for Vitamin A. which helps to prevent cancer, promotes lung health and prevents cell damage. In addition, Kale also is an excellent source of fiber, Vitamins C, E and K, Manganese, and Calcium."  Wow that's awesome! I got to try the raw cookies in the fruit burst and chocolate chip flavors.  They kind of reminded my of a granola bar. I would rate these a 7 out of 10 because they were a little too sweet for my liking.  They are quite healthy though.  They are gl

Purely Products Review

Purely Products sent me one of their SunMates and a Pocket Purifier for review.  Besides my opinion, I want to include a bunch of info about the products themselves, what they are used for and how to use them so you know. First about the Pocket Purifier: Pocket Purifier sanitizes surfaces and objects with the same UV-C light that sterilizes surgical instruments. Ultraviolet light and nanotechnology eliminate 99.9% of germs that cause colds and flu, plus e-coli, salmonella, mold, fungus and MRSA (staph). My opinion: I used this product in the kitchen to sanitize the surface of my cutting board after cutting raw chicken and then switching to lettuce.  I think that it is a very neat little object! Sometimes I feel like I cannot get stuff clean enough with a sponge so this tool helped a lot.  Also I use in on the counters, fridge, microwave, and bathrooms. Very cool product! Next, the Sunmate  gives "information on the intensity of ultraviolet rays right in the palm of your han

Manna Bread Review
July 23, 2010

Manna Bread Review

Manna Bread send me a whole bunch of their little loaves of bread to try for review.  Their breads are "cake-like, sprouted bread, yeast free bread, organic bread, free of salt, no oils, no sweeteners, no leavening agents. Manna is a moist and delicious, high in protein and fiber. Available in 9 delicious flavors in your favorite health food store, and most Whole Foods markets, in the USA and Canada.".   Right when I got the breads in the mail, I broke out a piece of the multi grain flax sourdough bread. I loved the taste of bread and the ingredients are so healthy! The bread as described is extremely dense which I liked.  I like the bread toasted with some margarine on it.  For one piece, there are 150 calories which is high to me if you are eating a sandwich or something but to have it alone is not bad because it is very filling.  I am very impressed with the breads and am excited to try some of the other flavors such as the carrot raisin bread and the banana walnut hemp

Trim Treads Review

Trim Treads Review

I was super excited to get these Trim Treads in the mail for review! I have seen them in a bunch of magazines and wanted to try them out for myself to see if they actually work your legs and butt.  Here is what the company has to say on how they work: When you wear Trim Treads, the motion when walking is similar to that of balancing in combination with using a Stairmaster; while staying balanced in these shoes, you can concentrate on different muscles that are not normally used when wearing every day fitness shoes. Trim Treads are an affordable way to work out and are cut so dramatically so that your body gets more activity in less time. The shoes provide people with an effortless and inexpensive way to trim their bodies when they don't have the time or money to devote to the gym. My opinion: When I first put these on, they were difficult to walk in.  It felt like the first time I put high heels on. Kind of unstable and weird.  After walking for a few minutes, it got better

King Leo sent me a variety of their yummy peppermint and fruity hard candies.  I know that candy is not the healthiest thing but I love peppermint so I thought that it would be a good review/giveaway.  I really like the chocolate mint candies and the soft peppermint candies the best. Also, they started selling crushed peppermint which can be used in different recipes.  I would use it in a milkshake or in brownies. Another thing about peppermint is that it is heard to help curb appetite so maybe it is healthy after all....haha Now for the giveaway. King Leo is giving away $25 worth of candy to one lucky winner! CalorieSmart CS80S Review

As a nutritionist, I have always wanted a personal calorie counter. I was so excited when Coheso agreed to send one for review. This little machine is great to help you count calories and record exercise.  My favorite feature about it is that you can look up the number of calories in tons of different restaurant's food.  How perfect! You could take it along with you and while looking at the menu, find out the nutritional stats! I love this little tool and will be using it often. It is very similar to a calorie counter online but is portable.  It helps you to track your diet and fitness progress as you lose weight or get fit.  They sell different types of the calorie counter but I tried the CS80S model which retails for $59.99. What this is used for: Look Up: √ Calorie and other nutrition information for over 50,000 foods √ Includes information from over 250 restaurants and 500 food brands √ Calories burnt by type of exercise (walking, running, etc) √ Lookup nutrition infor

Secrets of a Skinny Chef Review

Yay! My first book review.  I was very happy when the company agreed to send me this cookbook for review! Secrets of a Skinny Chef is a book by Jennifer Iserloh and has an introduction by Joy Bauer who is a dietitian.  I love healthy recipes so I knew that I would love this book.  One thing that is really cool about the book is that the recipes use real foods to make it healthy instead of just a bunch of fake sugar and other fake foods.  Some of my favorite recipes are: -Mac and Cheese with shredded chicken and cauliflower -Breaded zucchini with marinara dipping sauce -Chicken marsala with mushrooms and broccoli -Stuffed mushrooms with blue cheese Here is where you can purchase this cookbook at Amazon for $13.59. Not bad at all! Thanks for sharing your amazing cookbook with me!

NutraFiber Review

NutraFiber Flakes I am big on getting a lot of fiber in your diet so when this bag of NutraFiber arrived at my doorstep for review, I was interested in seeing if this product was any good.  There are 13 calories is 1 tablespoon and 5 grams of fiber!! They are made from sugar beet flakes! How cool. You can add the flakes to most recipes as they are flavorless and just add a good dose of fiber. NutraFiber Flakes Review I first tried them in my smoothie and that did not work out well at all.  They did not blend up and there were flakes all throughout my smoothie.  Then, I tried them in my morning oatmeal and loved them! They blend in and I loved that I was getting so much extra fiber in my diet.  Most people should get around 26-30 grams of fiber per day and this is an easy way to get some additional fiber if you are not getting it in your diet.  I will be getting good use out of these flakes because I love to eat tons of fiber.  Thanks NutraFiber!

My Weigh KD-8000 Digital Food Scale Review

As a nutritionist and a person who loves to cook, I have always wanted a food scale.  Sometimes recipes call for very specific measurements of ingredients and until now, I have just had to estimate.  When I got this KD-8000 Digital Food Scale from My Weigh, I was very excited.  It is super easy to assemble, comes with your first set of batteries, and very easy to use.  My favorite feature is that you can set something such as a bowl on there and then set the weight to 0 so that you can get the true measurement of the ingredients.  Also, you can change it from grams to ounces to pounds to kilograms! I LOVE my new food scale and will be using it all the time! Thanks My Weigh.

Giveaway #7: Honey Milk Light

Let me start by saying how amazed I am with this product.  I was told to request it from the dietitian that works at my job.  She said that it is the cool new thing for athletes to drink and that I should review it on my blog.  Honey Milk sent me a variety pack of their light milks and regular milks.  They have coffee, chocolate, acai pom, vanilla, and honey. I was craving chocolate so I tried the chocolate one.  It tastes just like chocolate milk but slightly less sweet.  It only has 150 calories for an 11.5 ounce serving and get this- 20 g of protein and 3 grams of fiber ! The non light ones have 240 calories/serving.  It is so delicious! I am very picky with high protein drinks because usually they are sickeningly sweet but this was not the case with the Honey Milk.  I drank only about half of it and am keeping the rest in the fridge for tomorrow. It claims to help boost performance, increase endurance, and help to reduce muscle fatigue . This is one of the best high protein prod

Simple Green sent me a bunch of their cleaning products to try for review.  I did a side by side comparison on my bathroom mirror using Windex and Simple Green window cleaner.  The result: they both cleaned equally as well.  I know that a lot of people are concerned that natural products don't work but that is NOT the case here.  I also tried the dish soap and it smells and cleans great. Eat Whatever Mints Review

Eat Whatever sent me some samples of their mints to try.  I decided to really put these mints to the test by eating sweet onion chips.  Each little sample pack comes with two mints that you swallow and one that you suck on.  The gel cap that you swallow has organic peppermint and parsley oils that work from the inside of your body to make your breath better and to make your tummy calm.  The mint that you suck on gives you instantly better breath right in your mouth.  The verdict: these little mints worked great! I could not brush my teeth because I was at work and did not use my toothbrush but the mints did the job.  It even covered up my onion breath! What a neat concept too! I have never heard of mints that you swallow.  Thanks Eat Whatever for the samples for review!

Zuvo Water Filter

The Zuvo in the Box I was very excited when Zuvo agreed to send me one of their neat looking water filters! I have never owned a special water filter so I was eager to try it.  As a nutritionist, I obviously think that people should cut down on sugary drinks and drink water instead.  I am NOT a fan of bottled water. I would not be going and spending money on expensive water when you can get it right out of the tap.  Some people do not like the taste of their water or it may not be safe to drink depending on where you live.  This is where the Zuvo comes in.  It helps to filter the water and is wonderful! You can fill up regular glasses with it or fill up a reusable water bottle and it saves tons of money because you don't have to buy water bottles any more. This product can go under the counter or above the counter.  It is easy to install and attaches to most standard faucets.  It helps to give you clean good tasting water.   The Zuvo out of the box Here is what the company has
