Ask the Nutritionist: Healthy Holiday Food Choices

I know that it probably seems nearly impossible to eat healthy around the holidays but this post is here to help you! These are some good food choices that are not too indulgent but still delicious!

This food option is low calorie and it will fill you up!

Tea such as this delicious Candy Cane Lane tea
Drink a cup of this for holiday flavor with no calories

Love eggnog?
Try this creamer in your coffee instead! You will still get the eggnog flavor without a ton of calories and fat.

While this is not super healthy for you, it is relatively low in calories compared to other desserts. Plus, you are getting many nutrients in the pumpkin.

I love this tart sauce.  It is low in calories and full of vitamins.  Also, it will help prevent a UTI!

while I'm sure that some people would fight me that this is bad for you because of the mayonnaise and the cholesterol in the yolk, I think that this is a good appetizer choice because it is high in protein and will fill you up quickly.

while these nuts are high in fat, they are okay eaten in moderation. Stick to a small handful

What are some of your favorite healthy Holiday foods?

What I'm Loving Right Now

Here are some items that I am LOVING right now:

-The holidays, homemade cranberry sauce, my puppies and their new costumes, my husband and the fact that he gets off work at 5 tonight (!!), New Years Eve being right around the corner, a few days off from work, the fact that I just finished my Christmas shopping (thank god), and that I just reached over 1000 followers (thank you all again).

And some material things that I cannot get enough of:

Celestial Seasonings Candy Cane Lane Green Tea

I just bought this tea and can't get enough already!

A hotdog costume similar to this one that I just got at Meijer today for 79 cents!!! Ava looks adorable in it.

Sunshine Falafel Burgers- so tasty! I love that it is falafel that is premade, organic, and very tasty.  I love the big chunks of garbanzo beans in it too.

Bridgewater Silent Night Candle- it smells amazing and burns nice and slowly so that the candle lasts and lasts!

Barbeque and Salt and Vinegar Popchips- The company so kindly sent me two boxes for Christmas! Little do they know that I have a stash of about 6 bags of Salt and Vinegar ones hidden already. I just can't get enough of these salty snacks.

Forever 21 Knotted Ankle Bootie- $27.80. I do not own these but think that they are super cute!

Windsor Benicia Ivory Short Dress- I think this dress is awesome for New Years Eve! A little out of my price range though $109.90.

Also, check out this corner TV stand from CSN stores.
I will be doing a review of one of their products soon!

I hope that you all enjoyed my list of what I'm loving right now.  What are some of the things that you just can't get enough of?

Sausage, Potato, and Kale Stew

 Sausage, Potato, and Kale Stew
Ingredients:
1 large link of turkey sausage
5-6 chopped up small yellow potatoes
1 chopped red onion
1/2 bunch chopped fresh kale
5 fresh garlic cloves
1 large can crushed tomatoes

Steps:
Chop up all ingredients and stir fry in a pan for about 20 minutes.  Add can of crushed tomatoes.  Simmer for 10-15 minutes more until potatoes are well cooked.  Add spices to taste (I added Franks Red Hot). Enjoy!
This stew was simple and delicious to make.  I found a recipe in Cooking Light magazine that was similar and made it my own!

Soy Candles by Phebes Giveaway

I just got these candles in the mail from Soy Candles by Phebes today but wanted to write a review right away because I was so in love with these candles.  I was sent the clementine candle and the cranberry cobbler. They are the BEST smelling candles!

The clementine is fresh and citrusy.  It smells great.   In fact, when I opened my mailbox this afternoon, I actually could smell these candles even though I had not opened the package yet!

The cranberry cobbler is my favorite candle EVER.  It smells so amazing.   The company actually chose this scent for me to review and I am so glad that they did. It has a fresh scent like cranberries but also has a holiday smell too. Here is how the company describes this scent "cranberry relish with fresh cinnamon, orange zests and some vanilla blend". Yum!  I just want to sniff these candles all day long!!

The candles come in an 8.5 ounce size and it retails for $12.99.  There are tons of great scents to choose from! I would highly recommend this company.

Spoonful of Comfort Review

Spoonful of Comfort is a company that makes chicken soup that you can send to people who need a little extra comfort.  I had the pleasure of reviewing this unique company and their chicken soup, rolls, and oatmeal raisin cookies.

My first impression is that the box was wrapped super cute! I love the paisley paper and the yellow polka dot ribbons on everything.  The people behind this company clearly care about putting a special touch on their products and that shows!

Second, I think that this is an amazing idea to be able to send homemade soup to your family members who are sick or may just need a little extra comfort.

On the night that I received this package, my husband and I NEEDED some warm comforting food.  Our pipes in our house froze and we did not know what to do.  We live in a double wide trailer and my husband had to crawl under the house in the snow to figure it out.  I was out there assisting.  He was out there for over two hours total.  Afterwards, I decided to hear up this soup to try along with the rolls and the cookies.

My husband and I absolutely LOVED it! We each ate two big bowls.  It really tastes like homemade and the rolls are semi-sweet, soft, and tasty.  This is actually one of my favorite companies that I have reviewed so far because I think the idea is so original and awesome.
