Homemade Concord Grape Jam

Remember my dad's homegrown Michigan concord grapes that I showed you last week? Well I took my share of the grapes and made some concord jam out of them.

No sugar added. Homegrown grapes. Perfect peanut butter and jelly ingredient. It doesn't get much better than this!

Homemade Concord Grape Jam
Ingredients
Concord grapes (I used about 10 lbs but you can use whatever amount that you want.)
Water

Directions
1. Pull all of the concord grapes off of the stem and wash.
2. Add grapes to a large pot and add water (I used maybe 3 cups).
3. Cook on medium heat and stir every 5-10 minutes.
4. Grapes will become very saucy. At this point, turn heat to low and simmer to let jam thicken.
5. Turn off heat and let jam cool. Once cooled, ladle sauce into a blender or food processor.
6. Blend until smooth.
***My grapes seemed to be very seedy and therefore, I had to additionally strain my jam using my dad's beer straining tools. A cheesecloth or fine colander would also work. If your jam seems to be smooth, you can skip this step.

Also, I keep the skins in mine because that is where most of the antioxidants and vitamins are. They blend up nicely and you cannot even tell that they are in there.

My jam turned out super sweet and did not need any added sugar. It had the taste of a store bought jam but so much fresher and tastier.

I am very curious, have any of you ever made your own jam? If so, what kind! I love making homemade foods so let me know!

  1. This is great! How long can you keep the jam in your refridgerator? Also, will this work for strawberries or other fruit?
