The Importance of Handwashing

Washing your hands is such an important part of staying healthy and preventing the spread of sickness. Especially since Adalyn was born, cleanliness is even more important than ever because I do not want her to get sick.

Thank goodness, so far, Adalyn has stayed away from sickness besides having a sniffle and some chest congestion. Unfortunately, I have gotten pretty sick twice this year and Troy got sick once. It is so tough being sick and I would do almost anything to not get sick.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, handwashing is like a "do-it-yourself" vaccine. It helps reduce the incidence of diarrheal and respiratory illness to help you stay healthy. They also say that it is one of the best ways to remove germs, avoid getting sick and preventing the spread of germs.

When should you wash your hands?
-Before eating
-Before and after taking care of someone who is sick
-After using the bathroom
-Before, during and after cooking
-After changing diapers
-After touching garbage
-Etc.

There are lots of times that we need to wash our hands in order to help prevent the spread of sickness.

How to Properly Wash your Hands:
-Wet your hands with clean, running water and then apply soap.
-Lather your hands including the back of your hands, between your fingers and under your nails.
-Wash for at least 20 second.
-Rinse under water and dry with a clean towel or air dry.

I was recently able to try out a couple of liquid foaming hand washes from Softsoap. These come in great scents including jasmine & white cotton, kitchen citrus bliss and whipped cocoa butter. The containers look really nice too. I have them in my bathroom and kitchen now. These can be found at Walmart for an affordable price (~$2.50). They made my hands feel clean without drying them out too much. They are a great addition to your kitchen or bathroom and can help wash germs away.
