How I Met My Husband

Since Valentine's Day is coming up, I want to take a minute to talk about romance. I might get a little sappy on you! I want to tell you all the story of how Troy and I met. I was 17 and had just started college a few weeks before. Troy was in a fraternity (now before you say anything about frat guys-I've heard it all!!). I went with my friend to his fraternity for a party and to meet new friends.

I met Troy because my friend was out in the cold on the phone and he was kind to bring her his coat. Meanwhile, him and I got to talking while we were waiting for her to come back inside. I saw that he had a picture of a John Deere tractor in his room and I felt close to home with it because my Dad has a John Deere. We talked about my parent's farm, where we are from, etc. We danced to a couple of songs (99 Problems I remember distinctly lol) and then I went home that night. Right before I left, Troy ran downstairs and gave me a hug and a kiss. I didn't know what to think of it because I was kind of seeing someone else at the time.

Then, I didn't see him for another 2 1/2 months until I came back the frat again. I was completely single then and Troy and I danced the whole night. It was so fun! I was head over heels. Since that night on April 1st, 2007, we have been together and have been in love since. We started hanging out a lot and became official 3 weeks later.

In June 2008, we got engaged and married on July 11th, 2009. Troy is the best husband that I could ever imagine. He is so kind, thoughtful, funny, supportive and a million other things. He is an amazing partner in life and an incredible father to our daughter.

Through the 8 1/2 years that we have been together, Troy and I have made an effort to keep up our romance. It was easy before we had Adalyn as we had all the time in the world to focus on each other. Once she was born, it became a little more difficult but is still a priority for us so we make it work.

Almost every night, we do something together. Usually, that includes watching one of our favorite shows, playing a game, having a glass of wine together and talking or cooking together. Especially on the weekend nights, we make it a date night in. This allows time to reconnect and keep our marriage strong. I love these times together.
A date that I look forward to having is to see the new Nicholas Sparks movie, The Choice which comes out on February 5th. We love seeing romantic Nicholas Sparks movies together and this one looks really good! It is about making difficult choices of the heart to find your destiny and perfect match. The main characters are brought together due to an encounter with their dogs- I love this because Troy and I are dog lovers. It will make the perfect date night to see this movie together and to make some dinner to enjoy the two of us!
