Foods I've Tried Lately Part 4

1. Russo's New York Pizzeria Pizza - Wow, this is honestly one of the best frozen pizzas that I have had! I was sent some Russo's gluten-free pizzas (made with rice and tapioca flour) to try and they are so good. Troy and I liked the margherita one best which was topped with tomatoes and basil. The crust is thin, crisped up nicely, and was full of flavor. I liked that the cheese went right to the crust. Troy and I devoured this pizza and then wanted more, not because we were truly hungry, but because it was so good! This pizza is great for anyone but I would especially recommend them if you require a gluten-free diet. 2. Milkmakers Cookies - As a nursing mom, I often worry if my baby is getting enough and have noticed a drop in my supply. When I notice this, I up my intake of oats, flax, water and take fenugreek supplements. These cookies by Milkmakers are great with oats and flax to help increase milk production. They come in oatmeal chocolate chip and oatmeal raisin fla

Cancer Financial Solution Options

Cancer is a disease that everyone hopes that no one they know ever gets but unfortunately, most of us do know someone who has had cancer. My Mom's dad- Dzia Dzia to me, had colon cancer. He survived colon cancer but I know that it was very hard on him and the rest of the family. As a dietitian, I work with many patients with cancer. Since many of them are malnourished and have increased nutrient needs, I have to work closely with these patients. Recently, I got very close to one patient in particular who decided that no matter what, she wants to live. She is doing everything that she can to fight the cancer and her other diseases. This is something great to see and is inspiring to see her desire to get better. Currently, there are nearly 4.1 million people living the US with cancer. That is way, way too many. Cancer not only is very physically and mentally hard on the patient and their family but also on their finances. Medical bills can be extremely high related to cancer tr

Advanced Oral Probiotics Review

Advanced Oral Probiotics Review

As I have posted about in the past, taking a probiotic can be a great idea. I personally take a probiotic anytime that I am on an antibiotic to help restore the healthy bacteria in my body. I also take a probiotic to help myself stay healthy during the cold months at different times. I have been reading studies on how probiotics can be healthy for babies in different situations as well. Probiotics are also recommended for those with digestive issues to help regulate digestion and for digestive system balance. I recommend these fairly often at the nursing home that I work at for my patients. Probiotics can not only help you when you are sick but can also help keep you healthy. I was recently able to try out these Great Oral Health advanced oral probiotics . They come in mint and strawberry vanilla flavors and are good for bad breath, halitosis, gum treatment and dry mouth. They contain a blend of 7 different probiotics including:  Lactobacillus Acidophilus, Lactobacillus Reu

Mantry Review- Perfect for Father's Day

There are many different subscription services out there for food and many of them are aimed at women. I recently found Mantry (the modern man's pantry) online which is aimed towards men which I loved- men deserve to try neat products too!  Mantry sent me one of their boxes for my husband to try out. Mantry comes monthly and is shipped in one of these awesome wooden crates- such a neat idea. It comes with 6 different full-sized American, artisan products to try. I love that they are all made in America and are from smaller companies because most of the time, you will be getting products that you have not tried before and it is wonderful to support our local, small businesses.  A one month supply is $85 shipped. Three months is $225. Troy loved opening this and we were happy with the products inside. They were items that almost seemed hand-picked for Troy. He loves pistachios and was super excited for these chili lime flavored ones. The Mexican style chocolate was

Baby's Got Soul Review and Giveaway

Adorable baby clothes just kill me. I have a blast dressing Adalyn every single day. I recently found a company called Baby's Got Soul that spoke to me. They have all different onesies with different sayings and pictures on them. Many of them have different fruits and vegetables which is so perfect because I am a dietitian and am obsessed with produce. I had a ton of fun looking through all of the options that Baby's Got Soul had to offer and picked out some great outfits for Adalyn. The onesies come in the cutest packaging- wrapped like burritos! Poor Adalyn thought that she was getting a burrito to eat.. I those the "let's get corny" onesie for Adalyn because my parent's have a farm and every third year, corn is grown on the farm. Even if there is not corn growing on their farm this year, some farmer nearby is always growing corn. This outfit is perfect for our trips up there! My little girl is part Italian so I thought that this onesi

How I Know I'm Meant to be a Dietitian + Work in a Nursing Home

I don't talk about my day job too often (besides the one about being a mom). As you know, I am a registered dietitian. I work full-time in a nursing home. How I got here is kind of a funny story. See, I was newly married and living in an apartment in Kalamazoo, MI. I had graduated with my bachelor's degree back in April but did not get placed in a dietetic internship like I needed to to become a dietitian. My dad is an optometrist and since I was not placed in an internship, I decided to try to go to school for that. I had to take about 5-7 classes in order to qualify to apply for optometry school. I decided to take these classes at a community college and hated it. I was taking physics, chemistry, biology, etc. I knew that I was not happy with this but was not sure what to do. I started looking for jobs online although I could not do much with just my bachelors degree without being a registered dietitian. I saw a job at a nursing home which I thought said in Southeast

Adalyn 8 Month Update

This month has been a mix of fun and crazy! The crazy part is the lack of sleep and teething. The fun part is crawling, playing constantly and eating all the foods. Clothing size : A lot of 6 and 9 month clothes, a little bit of 12 months, some 6 month clothes are getting too small- tear! Diapers : Size 2 Weight : 16.4 lbs My first Mother's Day- what, you didn't think we would be twins, yeah right! Haha I love to match my girl. Feedings : Adalyn still breastfeeds usually 5 times per day (about 6, 9, 12, 4 and 7). Sometimes there may be one extra feeding thrown in there. She eats 2-3 solid meals a day. She is an excellent eater and we have not found a food that she doesn't like.  We did find out that she is most likely allergic to eggplant. She has had it twice and has gotten a splotchy red rash around her mouth almost instantly. The first time, we thought it was from the oil used to marinate but when it happened again from just plain eggplant,

Tips to Save for Your First Home

Right after I turned 22 and Troy was 27, we purchased our first home. The market was right, it was time for us to move across the state and we found the perfect house. Buying a home takes planning, budgeting and saving. We saved for years before we purchased our first home. Here are some of our tips of how we saved for our first home : 1. Keep monthly costs low I recently posted about " How to Lower Your Monthly Costs " which included many of our tips. When you are spending more than you should on something like cable and do not get full use out of it, it is like throwing money away. Do what you can to reduce these costs and you will automatically have more money to save for a down payment on a home. Spot the baby! 2. Don't buy all new furniture When many people buy a home, they go out right away and purchase new furniture for the whole house. This either eats away at the amount of money that can be used for a down payment for a home or racks
