Tips for Living a Natural Lifestyle

When it comes to the choices that I make for my family, I try to choose the natural way when possible. With having a baby, it has made me more conscious of what we put on and into our bodies. I don't want any of us to be exposed to a bunch of chemicals so I have taken a look at some of the things we do and use.

Here are some of my tips for living a natural lifestyle:

1. Walk wherever you can
We are blessed to live within walking distance of a grocery store, coffee shops, a few restaurants, a playground, a pharmacy, etc. My husband and I love to taking nearly nightly walks and make any stops along the way that we need to. Just a couple of days ago, we walked to the grocery store and ended up purchasing a lot more groceries than I expected to. That was quite the walk home!

I say if something is less than a mile away, you should try to almost always walk (unless the weather is terrible, etc.). That way, you get some exercise in and skip driving your car. Better for you and better for the environment.

2. Simplify your cleaning products
We have started to use more natural cleaning products to clean our home, especially on surfaces that we know that our baby is going to touch.

3. Eat real food
We do not buy all organic nor do I plan to start to but we try to buy the most natural products that we can. We recently picked homegrown, wild apples on my dad's farm that were not sprayed and they were awesome!

We skip processed foods as much as possible and instead eat whole foods such as produce, meat, beans, etc. I feel so much better when I eat better.

4. Waste less
This is a work in progress for us but we are trying to waste less. We are already good at using up the food we have and not wasting that. I would like to recycle more and skip buying the items that we don't really need. A great tip is instead of using paper towels, use reusable kitchen towels. This helps the environment and saves us a lot of money.

5. Use natural health and beauty products
Tom's of Maine has some great products that are natural and better for the environment. Tom's of Maine® oral hygiene products are great for cleaning your teeth and mouth but do not contain artificial colors, flavors, fragrances, preservatives, animal ingredients and are not tested on animals. They also sell deodorant, bar soap and mouthwash.

I purchased the Tom's of Maine® Simply White® Clean Mint Cavity Protection Toothpaste and Tom's of Maine® Silly Strawberry® Anticavity Toothpaste from Walmart. My daughter is not using toothpaste yet but I will have her use this strawberry toothpaste when she is old enough. They have a demo on September 19th in select Walmart locations. They will be featuring different Tom's products and will be handing out samples and coupons.
