I have been wanting to make spicy smashed potatoes for at least a year, and finally got around to it! I keep a running Google Document with about 100 recipes I plan to eventually make and share on the blog and cannot believe that it took me so long to make smashed potatoes. I like them so much that I have made smashed potatoes three times in the last few weeks! These spicy smashed potatoes use Avocados From Mexico that are so delicious and creamy!

These spicy smashed potatoes are perfect for an appetizer at a party (kind of like a different take on potato skins) or a side dish at any meal. Last year, my siblings and I had the most fun New Year's Eve. We went up north to my brother's house, made a list of appetizers to make, all went to the store together to buy the ingredients, and had fun running around my brother's kitchen cooking together.

Fun appetizers are the way to go for New Year's Eve. Last year, the star of the show that I remember most was the stuffed mushrooms that we made with turkey bacon, pepper jack cheese, and pico de gallo. So delicious! I want to do something similar this year (but need to find people to do it with – my siblings are going out to a dance hall, and this pregnant lady says no thanks to that!). I love New Year's Eve because it is a good time to get ready for the new year and talk about all of the memories from the previous year. It is a great time to make new personal goals to work at achieving.

Spicy smashed potatoes are so delicious and easy to make. What makes them spicy is a mix of chili powder, cayenne pepper, garlic, and onion powder. What makes them extra delicious are the toppings! Fresh avocados, diced tomatoes (actually still from our garden!) and green onions. Depending on your preferences, you can also add jalapeƱo, sour cream (or plain Greek yogurt) or cheese.

Avocados from Mexico Hass Avocado
This recipe uses Avocados From Mexico's Hass avocados. We cook with avocados all the time (Troy is Mexican, and Adalyn absolutely loves them!). Adalyn's love for avocado started when she was a little baby and has continued now. She loves slices of avocado and of course, guacamole. In fact, my father-in-law makes special trips to Mexican town to buy her a special guacamole that she loves. The creaminess of the avocado is perfect on these potatoes!

guacamole
My delicious guacamole!

I love cooking with avocados because they are so versatile. I just made an avocado pesto that was so, so good! We love avocado on anything Mexican, of course, and it is the perfect addition to a classic BLT. Avocados From Mexico Hass avocados are always fresh, always delicious, and are always in season. I love to hear the different ways that people use avocados and encourage you all to toss some avocado in your dishes if you have not already. Can you tell I love avocados?
