Tofurky Artisan Sausage Review

I had never tried Tofurky products before but of course have heard about them as they are one of the leading vegetarian "meat" brands. They recently came out with a new line of artisan sausages that I was asked to review. I was sent their Chick’n & Apple Sausage, a Southern mainstay that is made with Hood River apples; Andouille Sausage, a Cajun favorite; and Spinach Pesto Sausage, evoking fine Italian cuisine.

I had my family over for dinner last Friday night for the first grill out of the year. I opened a package of the Andouille sausage which is Cajun flavored and had my husband grill them up. Without any spray or oil, they cooked well on the grill and did not burn at all. They had a similar texture to a hot dog which is good for vegetarians that miss meat.

I am not a vegetarian and neither is my family but we enjoyed trying these. My husband and dad each had one and liked it. My husband actually put onions and spinach dip on his. My dad enjoyed them as well. I tried a bite and enjoyed the Cajun flavor. These are a great option for vegetarians and I was impressed how they could be thrown on the grill and cook so well.

One large sausage has 270 calories, 3 grams of fiber, 29 grams of protein, 12 grams of fat and 490 mg of sodium. They are higher in calories than hot dogs but are bigger in size so you only need 1. These are also good without a bun cut into coins to save more calories. Main ingredients include wheat gluten, tofu, wheat berries, poblano peppers, shoyu soy cause, garlic and other spices.

If you are a vegetarian or are looking for great vegetarian meals, you should consider trying these Tofurky artisan sausages.
