Protein French Toast and Silver Hills Bakery Review

Protein French Toast
I am a huge fan of Silver HillsBakery breads and bagels. I reviewed them a couple of years ago and like every single variety of bread and bagel. My favorite part about this brand is that all of the products are whole grain and come in different flavors too. Usually, when a company sells a flavor of bread (for example, onion bagels), the bagel is made with white flour. This company includes fun flavors while keeping the products whole grain.

Silver Hills Bakery
Silver Hills Bakery uses sprouted grains for their products. Most of the breads have 100-110 calories per slice of bread which is pretty standard for whole grain breads. They are high in fiber with 4-5 grams/slice. The breads have 6-7 grams of protein per slice and are pretty low in sodium compared to other breads.

Protein French Toast
One of my favorite products is the Rappleberry bagel which is cranberries and apples. These bagels are great toasted with cream cheese, peanut butter, margarine or fruit preserves. My husband really enjoys the Herb’s garlic bagels which he enjoys with cream cheese before work.

As much as I love toast for breakfast, I knew that I need a good amount of protein in the morning to stay full so I created this recipe for Protein French Toast. I was nervous making it to see how it turned out and was pleased with the results.

Protein French Toast
Ingredients:
10-13 slices of whole grain bread (I used Silver Hills Mack’s Flax bread)
4 large eggs
½ cup milk
¾ cup protein powder (I used vegan chai and vanilla protein)
½ teaspoon cinnamon
½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions:
  1. Crack eggs into a large bowl and whisk with milk.
  2. Slowly add protein powder while constantly whisking to avoid clumps.
  3. Mix in cinnamon and vanilla.
  4. Turn pan on medium heat and spray with nonstick spray.
  5. Dip each slice of bread into “batter” and once pan is hot, add to pan.
  6. Flip each slice of French toast after a few minutes once each slice is golden brown.
Hint: do not cover slices of bread with too much batter or else you may get a protein powder crust on there.

Serve with syrup, fresh fruit, nut butter, etc.

Once the slices of this French toast cooled, I froze them for my husband for his lunches. All you have to do to reheat is toast a couple of slices in the toaster on high and you have a homemade breakfast ready to go.

I was pretty impressed how this recipe turned out and would make it again in the future. I love how you can make a classic breakfast recipe higher in protein and healthier by using the sprouted grain Silver Hills Bakery bread. Enjoy!

  1. Silver Hills Breads are Fantastic!! With the eggs added to the French Toast--I don't think you need any more additional protein added though...
