My kids love switching up what they eat for lunch and I wanted to share a fun lunch idea that I make for them: Peanut Butter Dip Bento Boxes! To be honest, my kids mostly get school lunches during the school week but on the weekends and in the summer, we are often out and about and need meals on the go. These peanut butter dip bento boxes are super fun, easy to make and very kid-friendly and I think your kids would love them too! They have protein, fiber and a good mix of carbs, protein and fat. They're the perfect kid-friendly meal to enjoy anywhere.

Peanut Butter Dip Ingredients

  • Peanut butter
  • Greek yogurt- vanilla or plain
  • Honey or maple syrup
  • Optional add-ins: cinnamon, vanilla extract, chocolate chips

What to put in a peanut butter dip bento box

  • Fruit- banana, apples, strawberries, grapes, pears
  • Pretzels
  • Cheese stick
  • Crackers
  • Veggies- celery, carrot sticks, cucumber slices

Why add peanuts to your kids' snacks and meals

My kids have been eating peanuts and peanut butter since they were 6 months old! It's one of my son's absolute favorite foods and an essential for my daughter for running. It's my top recommendation as a dietitian for pre-workout foods. A peanut butter sandwich is the perfect thing to eat an hour or two before a race! In my home, peanut butter and peanuts are a regular part of our diets. Last night for dinner, we had peanut edamame bowls with the best savory peanut butter sauce and we use peanut butter as part of our breakfast all the time.

I choose peanut butter because it's a good source of protein, fiber, healthy fat and 19 vitamins and minerals, including potassium, magnesium, vitamin E and B vitamins. All important for growing bodies and brains! It's affordable, available at any grocery store and, most important of all, my family loves it.

For my kids, I love that peanut butter and peanuts keep them full and focused at school, which is why we often have peanut butter toast, peanut butter drizzled on overnight oats and yogurt bowls with peanut butter for breakfast. I don't want to serve a meal that has them hungry 45 minutes later. It also keeps their mood stable. Having a balanced meal with carbohydrates, protein, and fat helps keep energy levels stable. Try adding peanuts or peanut butter to your kids' meals and snacks!
