Alter Eco Review

Alter Eco is a brand that sells fair trade products. They sell sugar, rice, quinoa, and chocolate. Prior to receiving this package, I had only tried quinoa once. It was in a recipe with cilantro which is the only food I really don't like. I wanted to try some of this Alter Eco quinoa to see if I really do like quinoa as it is a healthy, complete protein, delicious grain.

For dinner one night, I made a quick quinoa salad with vegetables and a vinaigrette sauce. I loved it! I used the rainbow quinoa and really enjoyed it.  The pieces are very small which was different to get used to but good. I think this could be used as a breakfast grain too in place of oatmeal. Quinoa is gluten free so it is a great option for those who have Celiac disease or are gluten intolerant.

If you don't know what quinoa is, here is some information from the company's site: Quinoa, an annual herb that grows from 3 to 6 feet high in the Bolivian Altiplano, contains more proteins than any other cereal and is particularly easy to digest as it is lighter than most grains. Referred to by the locals as a "protein powerhouse", it kept the Incan armies strong and robust. It was one of three staple foods, along with corn and potatoes, of the ancient Inca civilization.
Also, I received this delicious chocolate to try.  My favorite of the three flavors that I received was the dark mint chocolate.  It is a tasty dark chocolate with tiny crunchy flakes of mint in it.  I am not the biggest chocolate fan typically but really enjoyed a piece after dinner or as a little snack.  The company recently made some changes to their chocolate and improved the quality of the ingredients.

Disclosure: I did receive these products for free to try on my blog. I did not receive any compensation and all opinions are my own.
