First of all, thank you everyone so much for the pregnancy congrats! I was blown away with your love and support! We are super excited for baby #2 to be born!

As a second time mom-to-be, I am looking forward to meeting my baby. My pregnancy has been going well so far but I have certainly had some the typical pregnancy symptoms: tiredness, mood swings, food aversions, etc. With the food aversions, I have to eat what sounds good at the time which changes daily making it a little hard to meal plan and grocery shop.

As a dietitian, I know the nutrients that I need to consume to grow a healthy baby. Some of the main ones are fiber, folic acid, iron, calcium, protein and omega-3 fatty acids. This smoothie has it all! I chose the ingredients in this smoothie so that it would include these essential pregnancy nutrients and it tastes great too!

The orange provides folic acid which is essential to help prevent neural tube defects in babies. The chia seeds are rich in omega-3 fatty acids for brain health. The Greek yogurt is packed with protein and calcium. The spinach has iron and folic acid. The banana is for vitamins and minerals, especially potassium. This smoothie takes 2 minutes to make and is the perfect breakfast or snack. When I do not feel like having a big meal, a smoothie almost always sounds good!

Premama Essentials Pregnancy Drink
For an extra boost of nutrients, I used Premama Essentials which is a supplement that comes in packets and can be mixed right into a beverage or smoothie. It has lots of necessary vitamins and minerals that pregnant women need. It has the same nutrients that are in prenatal pills but is of course easier than having to swallow a pill.

Premama is unflavored so you can mix it into anything that you like. It is gluten-free, non-GMO and vegan. I bought mine from Meijer in the vitamin section. Along with the variety that I purchased, they have other varieties that are beneficial for breastfeeding women and others to help with fertility. It contains folic acid levels similar to prescription prenatal vitamins. It also has omega-3 fatty acids and iron (that is non-constipating). Learn where you can buy Premama here.
