The Republic of Tea U Matcha Review

I recently had the opportunity to try The Republic of Tea U Matcha teas. I had never tried matcha before and was not exactly sure what it was so this post contains a lot of information about matcha in case you do not know what it is either. I love The Republic of Tea and have done two reviews of their products before.

Here is some information about what Matcha is:
Matcha tea powder is ground from fine Japanese green tea leaves. It is the star of the centuries-old Japanese tea ceremony and its pleasant taste and health benefits make it a favorite of many tea-lovers today. It is unlike most regular green teas. It has tender, shade grown leave s that are ground into a powder and can be used in many foods including baked goods and ice cream.

The color of U Matcha is very unique. I tried the Yuzu flavor and was surprised how dark green the powder is. I was sent a matcha bowl and wisk which I added the recommended amount and drank it plain to try the real flavor. It was very unique. It was a strong tasting version of green tea. I did like it plain but in the future would probably have it cooked into foods. I saw a recipe for a salad dressing made with U Matcha and I want to try that soon.
U•Matcha™ Yuzu
The natural U Matcha is ideal for blending with water and sipping or for cooking. The Yuzu has a mild citrus flavor that can be added to desserts or spice rubs. The ginger flavor provides a spicy kick and can be added to stir-frys and miso soups. The roasted rice tea is good for savory dishes, shakes and lattes.

What I think is really neat about these products is their versatility. They can be used in so many products to provide a boost of flavor. I can't wait to experiment with them some more. Also, matcha has about half of the caffeine that is in coffee (around 50 milligrams).

  2. Oh this is great. I've been wanting to buy some matcha but wasn't sure what brand to trust. I love the matcha green tea smoothies I get from my gym and want to replicate them at home!
