Green Giant Veggie Chips Review

I love trying new kinds of chips and this time is no exception. I was sent some of the new Green Giant Roasted Veggie Tortilla Chip in garden ranch flavor and the Green Giant Multigrain Sweet Potato Chips in barbeque.

I am already a fan of Green Giant products. Did you know that frozen vegetables are just as nutritious as fresh? The reason is that most vegetables are frozen at the peak of freshness which is when they are most rich in vitamins and minerals. I love frozen broccoli in a stir-fry and like the frozen spinach in an omelet.

I decided to try the sweet potato chips first because I love anything BBQ flavored and having been loving sweet potatoes. These are crisp, salty and flavorful. I very much enjoyed them. One serving of chips has 120 calories which is about 30 calories less than most regular potato chips. They have 5 grams of fat and 190 mg sodium. They are made using whole grains including corn flour, brown rice flour and buckwheat flour. These sweet potato chips only have less than 1 gram of fiber though. They have 40% less fat than other potato chips. I think that the sweet potato chips especially are a fun alternative to traditional types of chips. They contain sweet potato powder though and not whole pieces of real sweet potato.

The roasted veggie tortilla chips are flavorful enough that you do not even need a sauce to put on them, although I'm sure it would be good! The garden ranch flavor is similar to other ranch flavored tortilla chips. They have 130 calories, 6 g fat and 190 mg sodium per serving. This is quite similar to other tortilla chips.

Although these are not the same as getting your veggies in, they are a healthier alternative to regular potato chips. Green Giant did a great job creating these new chips! I have seen them in grocery stores and would be willing to purchase them on my own.

  1. Glad you made note that these aren't the same as actually eating veggies! In fact, they are far from it. I get really mad when companies do this (no fiber, at all, just a little less fat than most chips).....either way, glad they taste good!

  2. Yep, I agree, not veggie in true sense of the implication. Also flour is not whole grain. Then we have Genetically modified flours. Unless of course they're Project GMO certified and I do not see the label on the bags add it would be IF they were. Nope nada not better except for calories and fat. I do not watch calories and lost 40 lbs by going non GMO and organic. Some fats are good for you. It's not total fat, its the type of fat you eat!
