A Letter to My Daughter

Dear Adalyn,

I've had a lot of feelings that I want to share in this letter which I will show you when you are older. I found out that I was pregnant with you on January 17th, 2014. This was one of the best days of my life. Your dad and I wanted a baby and little did we know, that she would be as wonderful as you.

I always knew that I wanted to have children one day. After 4 years of marriage, we decided that it was time. On April 28th, we found out that you were a girl and within a day, finalized your name, Adalyn Grace. I always liked names that started with an "A" for a girl and so does your dad. I had a short list of names that I liked and your dad chose your name from those. Once we decided on it, we never questioned our decision and knew that it would be the perfect name for you.

When I was pregnant with you, I read tons about pregnancy and having a baby. I researched products like crazy to make sure that we were getting the items that we needed and that they had good reviews. I had an idea of what it would be like to be a parent but nothing can prepare you for the incredible journey you are about to start when you become a mom.

I went into labor with you on September 18th, 2014. The labor lasted 39 hours (that's a long time to be having contractions). When I was in labor, your dad and I were so, so excited to meet you. The second you were born, they put you on my chest and my whole world changed in an instant. I went from being Amanda, a wife, daughter, sister, dietitian and friend to also being a Mom.

I worried during my pregnancy if I would be a good mom and if I would know what to do in different situations but right when you were born, everything came instinctively and naturally to me. It was the most amazing feeling and something that I did not expect!

Being your mom is the most amazing thing in the world. On a daily basis, I have at least one shocking thought that I cannot believe that your dad and I are parents and that we have you. You have made our lives so much better and more meaningful. Every single day with you is better than any of the days before you were born. Almost daily, I take time to thank god that you are healthy, that we have you, that I had a safe labor/delivery, etc., etc.

Your dad and I are so excited to see what the future brings with you. We cannot wait to see you walk, enjoy the farm, eat a variety of foods, go to school, learn all kinds of things, etc. But please, do not grow up too fast. Several people have told me to enjoy all the stages and moments in your life and I have made sure to do so. I even cherish when you are up in the middle of the night wanting to eat.

Your daddy and I love you so very much and cannot imagine life without you! You make our family whole and mean the world to us.

Love,
Mom
