Steps to a Stronger and Healthier Body

Making the decision to try to get healthy can be a difficult one. It takes motivation, determination and sticking with your goals. As summer approaches, it is time to work on getting back into shape if you let yourself get off the wagon over the cold winter months. Personally, I slacked on eating healthy at times and now, I am trying to amp up my fruit and vegetable consumption which helps me to feel my best. Getting back into shape involves several factors including eating right, exercising, getting enough sleep and drinking plenty of water.

Eating Right
This involves eating a mixture of whole grains, protein and lots of fruits and vegetables. I love the MyPlate method which makes it simple by telling you to make half of your plate full of produce at each meal. It also suggests making at least half of your grains whole grain and eating healthy sources of protein such as chicken, beans, nuts, seeds and dairy.

Sleep
As someone who has been recently sleep deprived with a baby, I can tell you that sleep is so, so important. Find out the right amount of sleep for you and aim to hit that amount of sleep most nights. I require at least 8 hours of sleep to feel my best while my husband only sleeps about 7 hours during the week but likes to sleep in a bit more on the weekend. Turn off the TV, put your phone away and go to bed!

Exercise
Move your body each day! It does not matter if it is a huge workout at the gym with weight lifting, Crossfit, a spin class or other harder types of workouts. A stroll down the street is also a great form of exercise. Whatever you do, make it fun and something that you are interested in. For more fitness information, check out Unique Fitness Concepts.

Getting a healthy body that is strong can be done. It takes commitment and determination to see the results of hard work. For me, feeling my best is the most important thing and exercise, eating right and sleep all play an important role in this.
