How to Bond with Your Dog

Tips and tricks for how to bond with your dog including shows to watch, taking them on walks, playing with them and more.

I love my two mini dachshunds Jaxen and Ava so much! After the kids were born, I'm going to be honest and say that the dogs took a backseat for awhile. Life was so busy with 2 little and then 3 little kids. In the last year, we have really gotten back to giving our dogs all of the attention and have reignited our awesome bond. Today, I'm sharing some of my tips to bond with your dog.

1. Cozy up and watch a show together

My dogs love when we lay on the couch with a blanket because they love to get cozy under a blanket with us. They attend all of Troy and I's date nights watching a show! We can't wait to start The Pack Prime movie on Friday, November 20th. It is an unscripted series that celebrates the bond between dogs and their humans. It is hosted by Olympic gold medalist Lindsey Vonn and her dog Lucy.

The series will feature twelve teams of dogs and their humans and adventures across different continents. The winning duo will receive $750,000 for them and their charity of choice and the other winners will receive large prizes as well. To win, the teams will have to depend on their understanding of each other's strengths and weaknesses and prove to have the strongest bond. So fun!

There is going to be a "Packed Weekend" which is a 3 day event featuring deals and experiences for you and your pup to enjoy together. I can't wait to watch The Pack Amazon Video with our furry friends!

2. Take them on walks

Dogs need exercise just like humans! The kids love taking turns who gets to walk which dog. Ava prefers to stay home and work as a security barking guard for our house while Jaxen loves to go on walks as often as we will let him. Having the kids be responsible for their dogs and walk them helps build our bond.

3. Let the dogs sleep with you

I can't believe we are back to sleeping with the dogs but we totally are! For awhile when our kids were babies and were getting up in the night, we had them spend the night in their cage together with a cozy blanket. Now, Ava sleeps with Troy and I because her sassy self refuses to sleep with the kids and Jaxen sleeps with Adalyn or Oliver depending on whose night it is. Ava loves to cuddle to Troy through the night and Jaxen running up to bed when he hears the kids upstairs. A 7 PM bedtime is totally his style. Getting to cozy up to the dogs has helped our bond.

4. Play with toys with them

These fun toys are so great for playing with the dogs. Even my old dachshunds like to play sometimes. Who knew they would enjoy bubbles? Haha!

5. Have the kids feed the dogs

Something about my kids feeding the dogs helps them trust the kids more. My dogs are kind of scared of the kids and over time, have gotten better and better with them. When the kids feed them, I think it makes them love them because food is everything to my dogs. They also give the dogs treats and it helps the dogs trust them more.

We are so thankful for our awesome dogs and I'm really glad we took the time to make them a priority again. The kids are obsessed with the dogs and it is adorable to see.

**Make sure to watch The Pack on Amazon Prime on November 20th.
