Ask the Nutritionist: Eating an Organic Diet

This was a post that I thought of last night. It seems like many people think that certain foods are healthy just because they are organic.  I am here to give you some information on eating an organic diet. 1. There are 12 fruits/vegetables that contain the most pesticides.  They call these the "Dirty Dozen". If you are interested in eating an organic diet, this is the best place to start by making this produce organic: Source ■Peaches ■Apples ■Sweet Bell Peppers ■Celery ■Nectarines ■Strawberries ■Cherries ■Pears ■Grapes (Imported) ■Spinach ■Lettuce ■Potatoes   2. Here is the list of the fruits/vegetables that contain the least amount of chemicals that you don't necessarily need to eat organic: ■Onions ■Avocado ■Sweet Corn (Frozen) ■Pineapples ■Mango ■Asparagus ■Sweet Peas (Frozen) ■Kiwi Fruit ■Bananas ■Cabbage ■Broccoli ■Papaya 3. Just because a food is organic does not mean that it is necessarily healthy.  For example, you can eat a

Great River Organic Milling Review

Great River Organic Milling Review

I had never heard of Great River Organic Milling until I received an email asking if I would like to try it. Of course I said yes and was sent a super heavy box of some different products.  I was sent pure organic maple syrup, 7 grain bread flour, unbleached wheat flour, 5 grain pancake mix, and whole grain hot cereal.   I have not tried the flours yet but I plan to make chocolate chip cookies with them using some cacao nibs that I recently received.  The pancake mix is great! I used it to make a baked pancake with apple pie filling for my family.  They really enjoyed it!  Also, the maple syrup is really great quality syrup and is grade A dark amber.  Of course I love that these products are organic and high quality.  I would definitely try these products again in the future!

The Protein Bakery Review and Giveaway

The Protein Bakery Review and Giveaway

The Protein Bakery is a company that makes high protein baked goods.  I really like this concept because you are having a dessert that will actually keep you full.  These products are rich in whey protein, are wheat free, all natural, and have higher dietary fiber than many baked goods. My favorite from what I have tried so far is the Blondie with Chocolate Chips.  I would only eat about half of it at a time though because for 1 bar it contains 380 calories! It also contains 11 grams of protein, 10% of your daily calcium, and some Vitamin A and iron.  The dessert is chewy and tasty.  I am impressed and cannot wait to try the rest of the yummy desserts that I was sent. Giveaway The giveaway will be for the Sample Gift Box which contains four cookies and four brownies/blondies (a $28.25 value). The giveaway is open until Midnight on Tuesday March 1st. Navitas Naturals Review

Navitas Naturals Review

Navitas Naturals is a brand that I have wanted to try for a long time. I have seen it on many other blogs and the products were so unique that I needed to get my hands on some.  I was sent some golden berries, cacao powder, cacao sweet nibs, and mulberries. I have had dried mulberries before and they taste pretty good.  I never had even heard of a golden berry and was impressed. They are tangy and chewy and very different from anything else that I have had before. The cacao nibs were surprisingly sweet and I will use them to make chocolate chip cookies soon.  I have not tried the cacao powder yet but plan to use it in my oatmeal along with some peanut butter. The company also sells many other healthy products like maca powder, goji, flax, coconut oil, stevia, etc. Considering that the products are mostly specialty products, they are quite a good deal.  Try some today!

Unwind Beverage Review

Unwind Beverage Review

Unwind is a beverage that can help you relax after a long day at work.  I am someone who has trouble sleeping when I have a lot on my mind.  I knew that this would be a good drink for me to try. Unwind uses natural ingredients like melatonin, valerian root and rose hips to relax you, is becoming popular with consumers everywhere.  A couple of nights ago, I tried the Goji Grape flavor.  It is very carbonated, tastes good, and only has 40 calories.  Within 30 minutes of drinking Unwind, I was completely exhausted. I went into bed and fell right asleep! This is very exciting to me and I would definitely recommend this drink.

Parisi Artisan Coffee Review

Parisi Artisan Coffee Review

Parisi is a coffee for sophisticated coffee drinkers.  Unfortunately, I was sent whole coffee beans to review and do not have a grinder.  Therefore, I shared these with a couple co-workers.  One of them like lighter roast coffees and the other likes dark roast. This worked out perfectly and I gave them a bag each. Pam, who likes dark roast loved the taste of the coffee.  She said that it was rich and strong, just the way that she likes it.  Michelle, who likes the lighter roast described this coffee as having a light chocolate taste.  They both really enjoyed the coffee. A bag of this coffee retails for around $9-12.  The company produces "green" coffee and is always aimed at providing the best tasting coffee on earth! It is great from what my co-workers have told me! Thanks Parisi Coffee!

Trudeau Mug Review

Trudeau Mug Review

Trudeau is a company that makes all sorts of amazing kitchen products.  I chose the awesome travel mug to review.  It is called Vision and has a leak proof lid. This is honestly the nicest travel mug that I have ever seen.  It kept my coffee warm for 2 whole hours yesterday. This is due to double wall insulation. The cup holds 14 ounces of coffee which is perfect. It is very sturdy and mine is a nice purple color.  My favorite feature of this mug is the "pop n sip" top.  You just press a silicone lid and it pops open.  This is a nice thing to use when driving so that you do not have to even look at the cup when you pop it open. Also, you can drink from any side of the cup, not just a little hole. You must try this cup! I already got many compliments on it yesterday at work and will be using it most days of the week. You can buy it off Amazon for only $12.57!!!!! Check it out.

Eden Organic Review

Eden Organic Review

When I first started blogging, I did another review for Eden Organic . I reviewed dried cherries and Sencha tea. Both were great so I knew that I wanted to review their products again.  This time around, I chose to review the kamut flakes and the tamari almonds which the company was kind to send me. The tamari almonds are crunchy and salty tasting.  They are wonderful chopped on a salad with a bunch of veggies.  My husband usually hates nuts on a salad and said he loved these!! I was surprised how low the sodium content (only 65 mg/serving) was considering that they taste quite salty. The kamut flakes are similar to oatmeal.  I cooked it the same way and it tastes almost the same.  They are packed with protein (8 grams) and fiber (4 grams) which is very impressive.  These flakes are filling and delicious. I can't wait to try more Eden Organic products in the future!

Supersmile Review
February 19, 2011

Supersmile Review

Supersmile is a company that focuses on giving you a white and beautiful smile.  I was sent some tongue cleaning sticks, whitening toothpaste, and professional activating rods which are used to help tooth whitening.  These products are great! I used the tongue cleaning sticks this morning and they definitely help to get the plaque off.  They come in bright fun colors and are easy to use.  The products are semi-affordable.  They are not drugstore prices but they are cheaper than getting a professional whitening. The toothpaste is great at whitening too. Typically, I use a whitening toothpaste but the last tube that I used was not.  I definitely noticed a change in the color of my teeth.  This product has helped to take some of the stains off (especially since my new coffee addiction!).  I have yet to try the activating rods but if I decide to get a whitening kit, I'm sure that they would help.

Deuce Brand Watch Review

Deuce Brand Watch Review

Deuce Brand is a kind of watch that is affordable and versatile. It comes in many different colors (I chose the purple and black).  It also comes in pink which is for breast cancer. It also comes in many different sizes which I think is neat.  I have a small wrist and if the band was too big, it would just flop around my wrist.  Mine fits perfectly though! The watches are only $20 each which is is great price.  These watch are designed to be used during sports and I am going to give my sister one who is a runner in high school.  Since I work in a kitchen, I cannot wear too crazy of jewelry so this is something nice that I can wear without getting myself into any trouble. Thanks Deuce Brand!

Wen Hair Products Review
February 18, 2011

Wen Hair Products Review

Wen hair products are a wonderful line of products by Chaz Dean.  I was sent the cleansing conditioner and the volumizing treatment spray.  Here is a little information about Wen products: "Unlike many ordinary shampoos, Wen cleansers are made with natural ingredients and contain no sodium laurel sulfate or other damaging detergents. They don't lather; instead, they create smooth foam when mixed with water for shinier, healthier-looking, more manageable results." The conditioner works amazing! It made my hair extremely soft and smelled great.  This product is unique because it cleanses and conditions your hair at once.  After my shower, I spritzed my hair with the volumizing spray and after blow drying, it gave some nice volume.  I love these products and will be using them every shower!

Premier Pets Review and Giveaway

Premier Pets Review and Giveaway

Premier is a brand that sells all different pet products. I could not choose which ones to review so I had the company choose for me.  I got this racoon toy and the busy buddy kibble nibble.  My puppies love both toys.  They actually like them so much that they got into a physical fight over them! The racoon is very soft and fun for them to chew.  The Busy Buddy is great because they can roll it around and their food comes out of it slowly.  My boy dachshund got the concept to roll it to get the food out.  My girl dachshund decided that she would rather chew on it to try to get the food out (haha). The toys are great and will provide my pups with much entertainment. Giveaway The giveaway will be for a Pogo Plush animal to a lucky winner! The giveaway is open until Midnight on Tuesday March 1st. Winner will be chosen on Wednesday March 2nd using Random.org. Mandatory: Visit the Premier website and let me know what you would most want for your pet. ***Please make sure
